TEXAS A&M BOOK PROPOSAL / NOTES FOR 11 August CALL / DGW
1: BOOK
TITLE:
The Press Advisory Committee and the Press marketing team often have ideas about a title that will catch the imagination, so we need a working title for now. Vosper needs to be the focus, Architecture needs to be the topic, and the A&M campus at College Station needs a mention.
Depression Era Grandeur: S C P Vosper’s legacy at the A&M College of Texas
SHORT STATEMENT OF SUBJECT/PURPOSE
The book uses new photography and text to celebrate the ten major buildings designed by Vosper and built between 1928 and 1932 (1929?), places them in historical context and comments on current reuse and rehabilitation of architectural heritage at Texas A&M University.
SYNPOSIS: Amalgam of Nancy and David’s earlier “short statement” wording. Would like to discuss the Santa Rita, obviously the discovery of oil had a profound impact on funding for both state university systems, and the Depression made labor and material costs very low. Which chapter should this topic be in? The Introduction/Context or the opening chapter by Nancy on S C P Vosper.
