Several years ago I spent two seasons as the photographer for the American Foundation for the Study of Man Mahram Bilqis Archaeological excavation, known as the Awam Temple, the largest pre-Islamic Sabaean temple in Yemen. I had the opportunity to photograph the workers and tribal leaders who belonged to the local tribe along with various village people throughout the country. Yemen is in the news these days, unfortunately not in a positive way. I was and am today fascinated with these character studies.
